Poole Harbor Canoe Trip May 17th -18th
Led by myself, Paul & Thomas H…
Saturday 17th - 10:00 meet at Lake Pier (BH15 4LR), on the water by 11:00 to make the best use of the days tides. We will be out on the estaury till late afternoon, so bring a packed lunch.
It is a 2-3 hour drive from the arches, so your decision if you leave Friday or Saturday early morning, state your preference & if you need a lift, or can drive & transport a canoe. I will be travelling Friday & can take a spare canoe.
Fingers crossed for wind so we can try a bit of sailing, the club has 2 sailing rigs, so you can swap boats & assemble tarpaulin make shift sails on additional canoes, which is fun in itself!
Not adverse to people paddling kayaks but would prefer canoes as not an A-2-B trip once we start sailing, if unsure of your ability, paddling tandem a good option for part or the whole day.
Cost: Travel, camping, food & beer are your only expenditure for this club run trip
Camping at
https://www.southlytchettmanor.co.uk (BH16 6JB), you need to make your OWN booking (I have booked both nights), don’t leave till the last minute as a very popular site, not the cheapest but good clean site and:
1. Dexter’s Catering van on campsite offering burgers etc Friday evening
2. Dorset Pizza Co van on campsite Saturday evening for food post paddle
3. Bus stop outside the main gate into Poole for Saturday night drinkies-ideally not missing last bus home which we have previously done!
4. Catering on campsite for coffee/breakfast rolls in the morning & the camp shop sells pasties etc for lunch on the water.
Sunday 18th – Paddle Wareham channel taking a different route, finishing mid-afternoon to make our way back to London.
Plan B for both days is to paddle the River Frome from Redcliffe farm campsite (BH20 5BE) towards the estaury returning on the tide.
