About the event

Most Significant Change: A 'story collecting' evaluation method
Join us for an in-person workshop that shows you an evaluation technique that looks at people’s individual stories to drive change.

About this Event

What is Most Significant Change (MSC)?
MSC a co-production approach to gathering, exploring and using diverse types of evidence in learning and development using story and dialogue-based methods. Measuring and gathering change outcomes in ways that are meaningful can be challenging. There is a growing recognition that people’s stories can be more powerful in learning-focussed evaluation. Most Significant Change is a storytelling approach to gathering and exploring change outcomes that was developed in the context of public health and community development

What this course will cover:
This interactive course introduces the core principles and practical application of the Most Significant Change technique. You will:

  • Learn the foundations of MSC and when to use it
  • Explore how to gather meaningful change stories
  • Practise story-based evaluation through hands-on activities
  • Understand how MSC can support learning, reflection, and improvement

The session is designed to be practical, accessible and grounded in real-world examples.

This course is ideal for:

  • Anyone with an interest in evaluation, learning, or improvement
  • People working in community, voluntary, public, or health sectors
  • Those curious about using case studies and stories to understand impact
  • Practitioners who want to use evidence to inform change and decision-making

No prior experience of evaluation or MSC is required – just an interest in understanding and learning from change.
