A SWIM LESSON is an ode to an everyday hero: Bill Marsh, a swim teacher who helps children manage their fears and discover their own power when submerged in an overwhelming unknown.

A discussion will be conducted with the director, Academy Award Winner and Plainfield native Will McCormack immediately following the screening.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS

William Joseph McCormack Jr. is an American actor, executive producer, screenwriter, and film director. He is best known for his short film (2020), which earned him the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. McCormack is also known for writing the screenplay for (2012) and the story for (2019), the former of which earned him nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and the Black Reel Award for Outstanding Screenplay, Adapted or Original. He appeared in the television series (1999–2001), (2008–2009), and (2008–2012), as well as the films (2001), (2005), and (2018). He won a Lucille Lortel Award for his role in the off-Broadway one-act play (2003).

Rashida Leah Jones, daughter of famed music producer Quincy Jonnes is an American actress and filmmaker. She is best known for her roles as Louisa Fenn on the Fox drama series (2000–2002), Karen Filippelli on the NBC comedy series (2006–2009; 2011), Ann Perkins on the NBC comedy series (2009–2015), and as the eponymous lead role in the TBS comedy series (2016–2019).

Jones also appeared in the films (2009), (2010), (2011), (2011), (2012), which she co-wrote, and (2018). Jones also co-wrote the story of (2019).

ABOUT THE MODERATOR

Lamar Mackson is a Producer and Assistant Director from Plainfield, NJ, and a member of the Director's Guild of America. His credits include; Damages starring Glenn Close, Kitchen Nightmares, Extreme Home Makeover, The Montel Williams Show, The Phil Donahue Show & Spike Lee's Summer of Sam. Mackson also served with director Tony Goldwyn on the Prolia commercial campaign. Lamar currently runs an indie focused production co., Nonstop Show Group, is the founder of the Queen City Film Festival, the Film Future Club and currently serves as Chairman of the Union County, NJ Motion Picture & Television Advisory Board.
