Set in London, HARD TRUTHS follows the struggles of Pansy (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), who battles depression and a generally pessimistic outlook, and her relationship with her upbeat and lively sister, Chantelle (Michele Austin). Often comedic and uplifting, the film delves into the deeper themes of anxiety and depression, exploring how these issues can shape and manifest in a person’s life. The film has been described as both outrageous and heartbreaking, showcasing the craft of a masterful director, Mike Leigh. For her performance, Jean-Baptiste received Best Actress nominations at the Critics' Choice Awards and BAFTA Film Awards.
