Reading Special Systems Plans

This Special Systems Plan Reading Class teaches students how to read construction drawings related to low-voltage systems that support building operations, safety, and communication. These systems are increasingly critical in commercial buildings and often require coordination across trades.

Topics covered in this class include:

• What is considered a special system?
• Common systems covered:

• Fire Alarm Systems
• Security (CCTV, card access, intrusion detection)
• Data/Telecom (structured cabling, fiber, server rooms)
• Audio/Visual (PA systems, digital signage, conference setups)
• Building Automation Systems (BAS)
• Nurse call, intercoms, and paging (in healthcare or education)

It is recommended to participate in the all Plan Reading classes for the more thorough introduction to plan reading.If attending via Zoom, you will miss some of the hands-on activities in the class.A Zoom link will be sent a few days prior to the sessions.
