July 10 – Introductions and Open Scenes Focus: Introduction to open scenes and script analysis
• Icebreaker & Name Game
• Expectations and Group Agreements
• Open Scenes: Cold reads & partner work
• Intro to Script Analysis (given circumstances, beats, and stakes) • Table Work
July 11 – Assigning Scenes & Building the World of the
Play
Focus: Deep dive into character and world-building
• Warm-up
• Scripted Scenes Assigned – Read-through with Partners • Building the World of the Play: Time, Place, Mood
• Begin blocking and discussing character dynamics
July 17 – Objectives & Memorization Focus: Playing truthfully with intention and clarity
• Warm-up
• Finding Your Objective: What does your character want?
• Memorization Strategies (repetition, movement, partner exercises) • Off-book work: Run scenes without script
July 18 – Obstacles & Actions Focus: Making strong, playable choices on stage
• Warm-up
• Playing with Actions and Obstacles in scenes
• Run scenes with feedback focused on objectives, obstacles, and actions
July 24 – Rehearsal Day Focus: Staging and polishing for performance

Instructor Bio: Jonathan Ovando began his acting career in 2009 and has since contributed to numerous stage and film productions as an actor, director, editor, and coordinator, specializing in both stage and intimacy direction. He has also been involved in Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA). Jonathan earned a BA in Theatre Arts Performance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2021 and an MFA in Theatre Arts Performance and Pedagogy from Texas Tech University in 2024. His notable performances include A Wrinkle in Time, Water by the Spoonful, The Impostor, and The Marriage of Bette and Boo, among many others.
