Our bio
Talk of the Village has been on the circuit for nearly two decades. It was born way back in 2005 when Dean Hardy, the inspiration behind the band, was one of a group of thirty odd musicians who played regularly in sessions at the Mason’s Arms in Bourne. He eventually selected four of them to join him on a journey called Dean & Co. Over the years the band made a veritable name for itself in the area as the sing-a-long folk juke box, their repertoire including classics such as The Wild Rover, Whisky in the Jar, Black Velvet Band, Dirty Old Town and many more.
Today there remains the core of the dedicated and long standing members from way back, Dean himself on guitar and lead vocals, Jen Hardy on bodhran (folk drum), Al Marshall on bass, Mel Stopper on his trusty banjo. A couple of years ago fiddle player Dawn Birch-James (Dawn the Fiddle) and Shelley Wilson flautist and vocalist joined the band.
In 2024, Dean & Co became Talk of the Village. The band still plays all the old favourites lapped up by packed venues, but now includes increasingly new arrangements and original mash ups of great folk songs and tunes including Raggle Taggle Gypsy inspired by the Waterboys, and The Week before Easter inspired by the brilliant Peter Knight’s Gigspanner and more recently Marie’s Wedding by The Ugly Mugs and Back Home in Derry with Jig Tenpenny Bit mash up.
