Over three very special nights in August, The Ellington will transform into Theatre in The Round, with the artists performing in the centre of the audience, bathed only by the warm glow of flickering candles. Award-winning singer-songwriter Juliana Areias, The Bossa Nova Baby, brings her authentic Brazilian style and rhythmically perfect, passionate vocal delivery to an intimate trio performance celebrating timeless bossa nova classics such as “The Girl from Ipanema,” “One Note Samba,” “Waters of March,” “Summer Samba,” and “Mas que Nada.”
Juliana Areias has performed on major stages around the world, including the Sydney Opera House, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, the Green Room in New York, and Rio’s legendary Beco das Garrafas – where bossa nova was born.
Her acclaimed original album Bossa Nova Baby won Best Brazilian Album at the US Focus Brazil Awards and reached the US Top 100 Jazz Charts. A five-time Western Australian Music Awards nominee, her music was considered “the changing face of Australian music” by ABC Radio National and praised as “excelling in elegance” by The Australian in its four-star review.
