About The Cover Girls

The Cover Girls, formed in 1986, was the project of songwriter/producer Andy "Panda" Tripoli and music promoter Sal Abbatiello. The New York-based dance-pop group featured a revolving lineup of vocalists that began with Caroline Jackson, Louise "Angel" Sabater, and Sunshine Wright. The trio got off to a hot start. Five of the eight songs from Show Me, their 1987 debut album, reached at least one Billboard singles chart. "Because of You" and "Promise Me," the two most popular A-sides, reached the Top 40 of the Hot 100. By the time of the group's 1989 follow-up album We Can't Go Wrong, Wright was replaced by Margo Urban. This lineup scored a number eight pop hit with the album's title track. For the 1992 release Here It Is, Urban and Sabater were replaced by Evelyn Escalera and Michelle Valentine, and they scored a Top 10 pop hit with a cover of Rose Royce's "Wishing on a Star." Satisfy, released in 1996, involved none of the original vocalists. Although the group continued to perform and made occasional guest appearances, the Cover Girls didn't release another album. The lineup often changed, but at one point during the mid-2010s, all the original members were reunited. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
