Free Creative Writing Course

Discover the mysterious and magical world of fungi through literature, art, science, and storytelling. This richly interdisciplinary course invites learners to explore the hidden lives of mushrooms and mycelium by engaging with poetry, folk tales, historical figures, scientific research, and multimedia resources. Each week, students will delve into new perspectives—from Sylvia Plath's poetic metaphors to Beatrix Potter’s scientific illustrations and Paul Stamets’ revolutionary TED Talk—using these diverse lenses as inspiration for their own creative and analytical writing.

With a strong emphasis on personal reflection, group discussion, and imaginative writing, this course encourages students to forge a meaningful connection with the fungal kingdom. Whether crafting a fairy tale about a mysterious fairy ring, analyzing the lyrical depth of Neil Gaiman’s "The Mushroom Hunters," or writing an original piece inspired by the glowing phenomenon of foxfire, learners will develop their literary voice while deepening their understanding of the natural world. This is a celebration of fungi in all their weird, wonderful forms—perfect for curious minds and creative spirits alike.

Running every Monday 10am - 1pm until 21st July.
