About the event

Tazewell County History Makers
Pekin Public Library historian Jared Olar will tell the stories of Peter Logan and Jefferson Frizzell, significant pioneer settlers who made Tazewell County history as the first African-Americans to own land in our county. Logan is also noted as the first formerly enslaved person to become a landowner in Tazewell County, and is due to be honored on Juneteenth this year with a new Illinois State Historical Society marker that tells the story of Logan and his family, and of his relationship with noted Peoria abolitionist Moses Pettengill.
