About the event

WALK and TALK for August
WALK and TALK for GREYHOUNDS and their OWNERS (and other sighthounds welcome)
We hope you can join us and enjoy this beautiful place.
The walk will be at Glen Helen.

MEETING POINT: We will be meeting at 2.30pm on Sunday 3rd August in GLEN HELEN CAR PARK. (on the TT course between Kirk Michael and Ballacraine). Please see map.
Just be aware that due to MGP road preparation, there are parts of the TT course which have speed restrictions of 40mph, so you may need to allow a little extra travelling time.

FACILITIES: There are toilet facilities a couple of minutes walk inside the entrance to the glen. There is also a childrens' play area on the opposite side of the river across a foot bridge.

THE WALK: We will walk through the trees along the wide track which runs alongside the Rivers Neb and Blaber. It is an easy walk with gently undulating slopes. Our destination is the beautiful Rhenass Falls where there is a seating area, before returning along the same route. Less than 2 miles in total with nothing too strenuous.
Approx 1 hour of leisurely walking. However, for those who wish to walk further there are small tracks and trails which lead on from the Falls which you could explore.

REFRESHMENTS: We will bring some hot/cold drinks and biscuits to enjoy at the end of the walk. Does anyone fancy bringing some cake.........?

Please bring your own poo bags and anything else you may need such as water for your dog. While walking with the group, we would ask that all dogs stay on a lead please and allow space for any new or nervous hounds. No extendable leads please.

WEATHER: I phoned the IOM Met Office and they say that there will be rain in the morning which is expected to clear between 10am and noon. So we should be ok for 2.30pm
On the positive side, it is not too hot for the dogs - and some nice wooded areas for shade if the sun does come out. Just come prepared! As usual, this walk will be weather dependent and if the forecast changes and it indicates deteriorating conditions, we may cancel, so please keep your eye on the Greyhound Aid League facebook page for any changes or updates.
If you click on 'Going' or 'Interested' you might get updates automatically. I'm not too sure how it works!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (Courtesy of Culture Vannin): Amy Johnson's tree in Glen Helen, Isle of Man. In April 1933, only three years after her famous solo flight from Britain to Australia, Amy Johnson visited the Isle of Man. She flew her own plane from England (as her husband - Jim Mollinson - flew his) and landed on the 15th of April, initially at Ramsey and then at Ronaldsway.
On the 17th of April the couple were in Glen Helen for a meal at the Glen Helen Hotel organised by the Peveril Motorcycle Club. After the lunch, Amy Johnson planted a tree in the glen.
The tree is still growing well today, and the sign remains commemorating the occasion.
