Open Drawers at Smail's
We invite you to drop by to see objects and archives in Smail’s Office that are not usually visible. Learn something new, share a memory, or come along for a blether!

Ephemera and paraphernalia from the printing works and stationers' shop tell stories of life in Innerleithen and beyond over many generations.

Smail’s was established in 1866 and served the town as a printers and stationers, as well as a post office, shipping agent and news agent until 1986 when Cowan Smail retired, leaving behind newspapers, photographs, and unsold shop stock.

Lead by Visitor Services Supervisor and Conservator Ylva Dahnsjo ACR.

This event takes place in the Office beside Smail’s stationers’ shop. Please enter through the shop.
