About this Event

In-Person Event: The Asian American Lung Cancer Experience – Stories, Care, and Innovation

Presented in Partnership with the Stanford Health Library, Asian American Research Center at Stanford (AARCS) and Stanford Asian Pacific Medical Student Association (APAMSA)

Date: May 15, 2025
Time: 6:00–7:30 PM, PST
Location: Stanford Health Library, 211 Quarry Rd #201, Palo Alto, CA 94304

Event Description:

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among Asian Americans—yet this population remains the least likely to be screened. While lung cancer has traditionally been linked to smoking, recent studies reveal a concerning trend: lung cancer among non-smoking Asian American men and women is rising by 2% annually.

Join us for an eye-opening in-person event that sheds light on this growing health disparity. The evening will begin with a screening of Be Here With You, a moving documentary that follows Stanford CARE Co-Founder Dr. Bryant Lin’s personal journey with Stage IV non-smoker lung cancer.

Following the screening, a panel of experts will engage in a meaningful discussion on the Asian American experience with lung cancer. Topics will include cultural and systemic barriers to care, the unique rise of non-smoker lung cancer in this community, caregiving challenges, and innovative approaches to screening, diagnosis, and treatment.

Program Agenda:

  • 6:00 – 6:30 PM | Documentary Screening: Be Here With You
  • 6:30 – 7:30 PM | Panel Discussion: Stories, Care, and Innovation in Asian American Lung Cancer

Panelists:

  • Dr. Bryant Lin – Stanford CARE Co-Founder & Stage IV lung cancer patient
  • Dr. Ranak Trivedi – Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University
  • Dr. Jeffrey Velotta – Thoracic surgeon and lung health specialist at Kaiser Permanente Northern California
  • Dr. Arthur Sung – Clinical Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine, Stanford University

Moderator: Dr. Bryant Lin

We invite you to join this important conversation to raise awareness, share stories, and explore solutions that can save lives.
