ANGEL OF THE YUKON

This is the 100th anniversary year for the famed race north in January 1925 to save the lives of people in Nome when a diphtheria epidemic threatened many lives.
While much emphasis is placed on the heroism of the dogs and mushers that raced the life-saving serum through raging blizzards that winter, there is another hero that Laurel Downing Bill will shine a light upon during her presentation.

Emily Morgan, a 47-year-old Red Cross public health nurse, played a crucial role in combating the outbreak of the dreaded disease. Her story of this epic time in Alaska's history will amaze everyone attending this presentation.

During her research into Morgan’s life, Downing Bill became so inspired by this woman that she began researching other incredible men and women who made their way to the Last Frontier and left their marks on Alaska. She just published a new book filled with their stories, titled Pioneers From Alaska’s Past, and will have copies available for purchase after her presentation.
