Florida based developers hope to get the town of Catskill Zoning Board of Appeals to cave on their established boundaries for placing cell towers. This Florida based developer has taken the opportunity to change their plan to be much closer to homes and 3 times as tall as originally proposed.
Why?
Who knows? If they have 150 feet of tower rather than 50 feet of tower, they can cram 3 extra sets of equipment up top. Which would make this much larger with far uglier maring the landscape.
The developer cant't see any of that equipment from their office in Florida!
They wil be able to see their much larger profits if achieved. (With no benefit to folks in Palenville.)
The developer is asking the Zoning Board of Appeals to throw out all the due diligence they have done in creating meanigful and carefully thought out ordinance that balances communication needs with astetic, social, and economic needs of the Town of Catskill as a whole.
If the board grants this waiver all of what the board has done to make Palenville (and the Town of Catskill) stay beautiful will be a waste. Once a waiver is granted Palenville looses this amazing and most famous jewel, for which our hamlet is known as "Land of Falling Waters".
Once a waiver is granted there is no enforcing code. The zoning board of appeals will loose all power to stop similarly poorly placed money vaccum, eye sores through out the Town. Every forgien developer will know that the place to buid as big a cell tower as you want is right here in Catskill, because no one will stand up for our people and our lifestyle.
