Drumming & Storytelling with Javoen Byrd

Come ride the rhythm of West African and African American drumming in an interactive musical journey with Javoen Byrd, open to all ages. Learn the language of the drums and their cultural and historical significance in a hands-on way! You’re sure to be uplifted and enlightened!

Javoen is a talented Olympia-based musician and ethnomusicologist. He is the executive director of The Hawk Foundation for Research and Education in African Culture, which provides educational seminars, lectures, and workshops designed to educate youth and advance cultural understanding of African American and West African culture and heritage.
