Views of the Past: Through the Lens of Vernon Duroe

Stop by the Oxford Memorial Library for a special history presentation by Zac Greenfield of the Chenango County Historical Society.
Born in Norwich, NY, Duroe (1872-1958) was a professional photographer who taught photography in Brooklyn for 20 years. After retiring from teaching, he spent his time photographing Chenango County landscapes and people; many of the resulting works were exhibited at the Sherburne Arts Festival and other local art shows. Duroe primarily used the Bromoil photographic process, a process that chemically treats a silver gelatin print with a dichromate salt solution to harden the gelatin according to the amount of silver present.

Celebrating & Preserving Chenango County's Heritage is supported in part with federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated to the New York State Library by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
