About the event

Climate Criminals: Film and Discussion Circle with Activists and Filmmakers
Film screening followed by discussion with the filmmakers and activists fighting for climate justice on their rationale for direct action

About this Event

Join us at the Pitt Rivers Museum Climate Justice Late Night, for a thought-provoking and deeply personal exploration of the circumstances that force people into taking radical direct action to fight for climate justice. Hear from the filmmakers Sophie Austin and Becky Burchell of Change Festival about their film Climate Criminals, and discuss with the activists who undertook contraversial direct actions and faced persecution, fines and even J*il time.

This activity is ticketed and we ask that audience members remain for the duration of the event, in order to create a safe space for everyone - activists, audience-members and film-makers alike - to share their experiences and views, as humans who share and care for our broken world. Direct actions, especially in heritage spaces, are deeply contraversial subjects and have been whipped up in culture wars in popular media. This event offers a safe space to discuss the human stories behind these actions, the rationale, regrets, triumphs, beliefs. We welcome respectful discussion, questioning and story-sharing, but will refrain from accusation or aggressive behavior/language. When confronting the mammoth challenge of climate chaos, it is normal for us to have varying levels of engagement, comfort or understanding. Come with curiosity, openness, and willingness to engage in emotionally-tough conversation. This experience will reward us with rare insight into the lives of those who would put everything on the line for their convictions, their aspirations and regrets, and the choices of documentary film-makers hoping to share their stories with the world.
