Bossaphonik returns on 12th September in a one-off earlier slot of the 2nd Friday of the month with the Danish/Ghanaian supergroup “Total Hip Replacement & Anyankofo” plus a guest DJ set from Count Skylarkin – both for the first time at Bossaphonik.
The band is a collaborative project between the Danish reggae stalwarts and an assortment of top Ghanaian musicians, together they navigate playfully from intoxicating reggae through to soulful highlife in an energetic and unique live show. The project was launched in full force with the release of the album “Anyankofo” featuring legends such as Pat Thomas, Kwame Yeboah and Rocky Dawuni. 2022-24 have been explosive years for the band seeing an extensive release tour in Ghana and around Europe with more then 120 shows and thousands of listeners. Both the live shows and album were critically acclaimed with very positive reviews in magazines and radio such as Songlines, RIDDIM and Cosmo WDR.
Together with top highlife producer Kwame Yeboah and renowned Ghanaian musicians from the bands of Pat Thomas and Ebo Taylor, the fuel of highlife is brought into Total Hip Replacement’s reggae machine. The word “Anyankofo” means “friends” and embodies the band’s vision to collaborate with musicians across different backgrounds, pushing boundaries and building bridges through music and friendship. The resulting music merges elements of reggae, highlife, afrobeat, dub and soul in a bold mix with a live show featuring a 9-piece high energy group onstage encompassing a tight horn section and infectious vibes.
Throughout 2024, the band regrouped in Ghana and recorded new songs, digging deeper into the collaboration and invited new and exciting features into the project. This material is being unleashed this year as the band have embarked on a new European tour with 30 shows across Denmark, Germany, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and the UK!

As ever, following on from the live band is a Bossaphonik club session and for the first time at Bossaphonik we’re excited to welcome the legendary DJ Count Skylarkin. An institution who needs no introduction to Oxford folk, he is celebrating 25 years of his Skylarkin' Soundsystem events in Oxford this month. Though known particularly for vintage and new reggae, rocksteady, ska, dancehall, soul, hip hop and jungle – he will play a more global-oriented set at this Bossaphonik event alongside some of his trademark sounds. Count Skylarkin has shared stages with major figures of Jamaican music such as The Wailers, The Specials, Toots & the Maytals, Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Skatalites, Max Romeo and a whole host more of international luminaries. His “Disco Shed” soundsystem has travelled to all the best UK festivals, often in double figures every summer for the last 20 years!
