Stronger Together Against Wildfires: Canada and the EU

The Delegation of the European Union to Canada, in partnership with Canada’s National Observer, will host a panel discussion on cooperation against wildfires. The event aims to highlight EU-Canada alignment on wildfire prevention, crisis response, as well as on climate change adaptation and mitigation. Thanks to this multi-pronged approach, the event ties into both the G7 Kananaskis Wildfire Charter and the EU-Canada Green Alliance.

H.E. Geneviève Tuts, Ambassador of the European Union to Canada, will offer opening remarks.

The event will feature keynote remarks from:

Hans Das, Deputy Director-General, European Commission, Directorate General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO)

Trevor Bhupsingh, Assistant Deputy Minister of Emergency Management and Programs, Public Safety Canada

Michael Bonser, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for the Strategic Policy and International Affairs Branch at Environment and Climate Change Canada

A panel discussion with:

Dale Beugin, Executive Vice-President, Canadian Climate Institute;

Timothy Gull, currently Director of Operations at Click Spirit, Indigenous owned and operated technology company, formerly Manager at Environment Canada;

Koreen Millard, Associate Professor in Geography and Environmental Studies at Carleton University.

The event will be moderated by David McKie, Managing Editor, Canada’s National Observer.
