Theme: Old and New
Meet new people and read, share, and discuss poetry over drinks and snacks! It's as simple as that. Join us for the second Ottawa Poetry Salon, Sunday, 1 March 2026, from 7 pm to 9 pm at The Hintongburg Public House, 1020 Wellington Street West, Ottawa.
The theme for our second gathering is “old and new.” Everyone is encouraged to bring THREE POEMS to read to the group—one written before 1975, one written since 2000 (the more recent the better), and another one completely of your choosing! If you can, please print three copies of each poem so people can read along if they want to.
They can be poems written by anyone, including you! The idea is to think about how poems can affect us no matter when they might have been written, but also to consider whether there are any notable differences between poetry written 50+ years ago compared to more recent poetry. As always, the goal is more to appreciate and come to a deeper understanding than to critique individual poems, although people’s tastes will certainly differ—and that’s ok!
There is no charge to attend, but we strongly encourage you to purchase a beverage or a snack from the kind people at The Hintonburg Public House, who have graciously agreed to host us.
