En collaboration avec la Chaire de recherche du Canada en droit international et comparé de l'intelligence artificielle

Abstract

The conference will address, from a legal perspective, ethical frameworks developed since 2017 by the research laboratory led by the presenter in Brazil, for the use and development of artificial intelligence solutions applicable to the field of law. Based on this ethical framework and on the adjusted concepts of artificial intelligence—particularly considering the centrality of AI system risks in the formation and use of datasets—the laboratory has developed several AI systems within the University of Brasília in Brazil. After the emergence of generative AIs, in addition to all the existing risks, a new challenge arose: the cost of using BigTech systems. Within this context, the AI-Osiris project was developed, which will be the focus of the second part of the conference, aimed at assisting suits in the recovery of tax debts for the government.

Biography

Fabiano Hartmann Peixoto holds a Ph.D. in Law, with postdoctoral fellowships in Artificial Intelligence applied to Law. Since 2017, he has coordinated and conducted AI R&D projects, being a pioneer in the development of AI for the Brazilian Supreme Court. He is the author of a book series on AI and Law, and a professor of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in Law at the University of Brasília. He is a former President of the Ibero-American Association of AI and Law and serves as a consultant to the Brazilian Judiciary on innovation.
