Nancy Jeanne Gaskell
September 22, 1948 - June 22, 2025
Nancy βNanβ Jeanne (Peters) Gaskell, 76, of Greenbush, Michigan, passed away peacefully and somewhat unexpectedly on June 22, 2025, in Bay City, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family.
Nan was born on September 22, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, to Geraldine βGeriβ (Glenday) Peters and Norman βPeteβ Peters. She grew up in Detroit and graduated from Patronage of St. Joseph. Nan spent many years in Oscoda raising her family, eventually settling in Greenbush, where she lived out her later years.
Nan began her professional life at Dearborn Federal Credit Union and eventually retired from Northland Area Federal Credit Union (formerly Wurtsmith). After retiring, she continued giving of herself as a caregiver to many families in her community β work that was close to her heart until her health no longer allowed.
Nanβs greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family, whom she is survived by. She was a devoted wife to Ronald R. Gaskell and a proud, loving mother to Flynn Gaskell, Geri Gaskell, and Traci Garnett (Randall). She was affectionately known as βNinaβ to her grandchildrenβ Tyler and Cheyla Gaskell, Aliza and Damian Odell, and Ember Gaskell β they were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment she spent with them. Nan is also survived by her two brothers and two sisters. She is preceded in death by her parents, Geri and Norman Peters, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Known for her kindness and her lighthearted spirit, she had a special gift for making others feel loved β always ready with a joke, even in her final days. Nan enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitching for many years, collecting Readerβs Digests, doing puzzles, and never passed up a fudgesicle. Her quiet strength, deep care for others, and unwavering love for her family will be missed beyond words. She was deeply loved. She will be deeply missed. But her laughter, kindness, and strength will forever echo through the lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held on Saturday, August 16th, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Lakewood Shores Pavilion in Oscoda, MI, with a short service at 1:00 pm. Light snacks and desserts will be available. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) in Nanβs memory. Donations can also be made directly to the family to assist with medical and funeral expenses. Please contact
