Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a nonprofit organization that collects, stores, and distributes donated food to more than 625 feeding partners in seven Central Florida counties.
We dry sort food donations, which involves checking donated goods from supermarkets, Amazon returns, and other sources, for damage, quality, and expiration, and repack them for distribution. Second Harvest is exceptionally well-organized, and you can be sure that your volunteer efforts will be utilized well to help reduce food insecurity in the Central Florida area.
How to sign up for the event:
1. If you are a first-time volunteer at Second Harvest, you must create an account at the Second Harvest site below:

2. Sign in to your Second Harvest account, if required.
3. Navigate the Volunteer Portal at

4. Scroll to the date of the this month’s event and click on the Donation Sorting link for the 8:15-11:30 AM shift: (See a Blue Sign Up Button)
5. This will bring you to the signup page for the shift. Click on the Blue SIGN UP button to reserve your spot for the event.
6. NOTE: if the RESERVED icon shows up in place Blue Signup button, this means that all available slots for that shift have been taken. (The "reserved" icon is a black circle with a line through it that says RESERVED).
7. We have permission to bring volunteers in for this event, even if all slots are taken. This means that if the RESERVED icon shows up, you can still come and participate with our group. Contact the event host, Tony Pelham, if you have questions.
Be sure you have RSVPd here in the CFFC event! That way we know to look for you.
The Day of the Event:
- Arrive by 8:00 a.m. to allow time for us to meet up as a group. Traffic can be a little busy at this time of day, so plan accordingly!
- Meet in the lobby and find Tony Pelham. He will be wearing either a green CFFC volunteer t-shirt or an orange Second Harvest shirt. If you don't have a green CFFC volunteer shirt, he will give you one.
- If you are not going to make it, or are running late, send a message to Tony Pelham to let him know.
- After our group arrives, we’ll enter the warehouse to begin the volunteer work.
Second Harvest Attire Rules for Donation Sorting:
Closed-toe AND closed-heel shoes are REQUIRED to help out in our facility. Please wear appropriate length shorts that are not too revealing. Also, no see-through shirts, spaghetti straps, or crop tops, please.
