Per Jeff Hicks:
For those of you who are upset about what the Iowa DNR has done - and continues to do - to both Blue Lake and the Lewis & Clark State Park, the DNR has begrudgingly set a tentative date for a public information session on Thursday June 26th, at 5:30 PM, at the West Monona High School
There is no doubt that Michelle Balmer - the DNR employee who is responsible for this - wants to come in, read a carefully worded statement in which she refuses to accept any responsibility or lay out any plan, then shut the meeting down and leave.
If you care about the continued impact this disaster is having on Monona County, I urge you to attend. Spread the word. Fill the building! Don't just demand honest answers, but an account of what the DNR intends to do in the immediate and long-term future.
Hold the DNR responsible for their decision to dredge the lake in 2022 - during a severe drought - leading to an immediate drop of 5' in the level of the lake.
Hold the DNR responsible for refusing to turn on the well pumps that were designed and installed to pump water into and stabilize the level of the lake.
Hold the DNR responsible for allowing Lewis & Clark State Park to fall into utter disrepair and become a ghost town.
Urge State Senator Kevin Alons and Representative Travis Sitzmann to attend.
The Iowa DNR is an extremely well entrenched entity that knows they are accountable to nobody. That needs to change. Let's do what we can to make it change.
