About the event

Nights at The Joslyn: Music, Storytelling & Movement
Music, Storytelling & Movement

Monthly Nights at The Joslyn events are free evenings for art immersion. Come out for art talks, art making, special programs, and tasty food and drinks (for purchase). This month, we’ll have an evening where everyone has the chance to watch and participate in a variety of art forms—including dance, poetry, and visual art.

A look at the fun this month from 5–8 pm:

• Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the evening. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
• Storytelling & Poetry Workshop with Matt Mason, former Nebraska State Poet. The workshop begins with Matt Mason sharing his poetry, inspired by works in the European gallery, followed by writing in those same gallery spaces and time to share.
• Dance the night away with the Omaha Jitterbugs, an experience designed for all ages. This Omaha organization brings swing dance and music to the area through educational programs, classes, and weekly social dances. (there will be a scheduled break from 6–6:30 pm).
• From 5 to 7 pm, choreographer and educator Lauren Simpson and her collaborators will enact movement installations throughout The Joslyn’s Rhonda & Howard Hawks Pavilion and gardens. This work, Desire Lines, is part of the Made in the Plains exhibition. Simpson conceives site-specific performances that call attention to the relationships among movement, sound, and space.
• In the studio, create your own Blackout Poetry and incorporate it into a work of art.
• Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
• Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
• The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, stocked with an array of books and games.
• Due to the generous support of Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, "Made in the Plains," tickets are free to all from 4-8 pm today; always free to Joslyn members.
• Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale. The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).

Thanks to program partner, Omaha Jitterbugs.
