Behind the Buzz: The Insects of Late Summer

It’s the telltale sound of August in Omaha – the droning buzz of thousands of cicadas calling from the trees.

Ever wondered how these curious creatures make their signature sound? And why do they do it?

Also, why do they leave their shells clinging to trees? And what’s up with broods?

As we enjoy the peak of insect season here in Nebraska, we’ll be investigating these questions and more with Jody Green of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension office.

Come get an up-close examination of several insects who thrive in the heat of summer. Learn about their many surprising adaptations, including some that might even inspire new human technologies!
