Bob Potter Art Talk: A Nation Divided, A Nation Restored: The World of Winslow Homer

The artist Winslow Homer, considered one of America’s greatest artists, will show the reality of the Civil War war and the country and its people that will emerge as our nation defines a new identity. From scenes of the battlefied to the innocence of the school yard to sweeping ocean vistas of sailing and the sea, Winslow Homer’s mastery of painting in oil and watercolor will combine with his early training as an illustrator to create visual stories of life in America that captivated audiences of his time as they still do today more than 150 years later.

Art Lecture Presenter Bob Potter is the former Executive Director of the Lyme Art Association. He is a graduate of Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts and spent his early career as an art director and marketing executive for leading media companies including Scholastic Magazines, Time Warner, and National Geographic. He was a corporate development officer for the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and over the past decade managed an innovative art therapy program for Save The Children, headed marketing and communications for the Mystic Seaport Museum, launched a professional development program for art students at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and is a docent at the Yale Center For British Art. He and his wife Jeanne, who is a master watercolorist and art instructor, live in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
