Speed Painting: Still Life with Howard Park & Lisa Miceli

In this speedpainting workshop students will learn to simplify a still life through a series of 20-minute paintings completed throughout the day. The still life will begin with 3 objects, and at the end of each painting a new object will be added without changing the original items, up to as many as 7 items by the end of the day.

This will help students to abstract the original three items, and allow for freer, more expressive brush and palette knife work, minimizing detail, and capturing the spirit of the still life by finding proper values and colors. The last painting of the day will be of the original 3 items; we then have a class review of the students’ progress throughout the day to looser, more expressive paintings.

This workshop is face paced, fun and challenges our usual ways of seeing and approaching paintings.

All levels of students welcome. Students can paint in any medium: oil, acrylics, watercolor, or pastel and will need to bring 6 – 8 small painting surfaces, (no smaller than 8×10” canvas, board, or watercolor paper) and your favorite painting supplies.
