“All You Can Write Is What You See” is an all-ages creative writing workshop that will be offered at the 2025 Woody Guthrie Folk Festival (WoodyFest), to be held from July 9-12 in Okemah, OK.
“All You Can Write is What You See” is a creative writing workshop that will be offered to high school students and adults. The two-part workshop will be held on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12 from 3-5 p.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church (202 N 3rd St, Okemah).
The workshop will give participants an overview of Woody’s biography and his music as written work, focusing on his lyrics and how they were derived from personal and learned experiences.
The title of the workshop is taken from notes scrawled by Guthrie at the bottom of the original handwritten lyrics to his most famous and beloved song “This Land Is Your Land.” A return to observational writing, is an opportunity to hone creative writing skills and learn more about our society, country and people.
Participants will be given the opportunity to “write what they see” by examining current events and using the creative process to write their own lyrics or prose.
Jesse Aycock and Kalyn Fay will perform during the Friday session.
