Event Details: Join us for a fascinating Civic Thursday presentation on the history and preservation of Oakland’s iconic 16th Street Station. Built in 1912 and designed by renowned architect Jarvis Hunt, the Beaux-Arts structure once served as a major hub for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Though no longer an active train station, the building remains a beloved architectural landmark and was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places under the name Southern Pacific 16th Street Station and 16th Street Tower. Learn about its storied past, its place in Oakland’s development, and the efforts underway to preserve this historic treasure for future generations.
