Sign My Name to Freedom: The Lost Music of Betty Reid Soskin

THE EVENT

We are excited to be collaborating with the to host an all-ages community gathering in support of the arts, Black history, and the forthcoming Betty Reid Soskin documentary on Saturday, July 26th at the majestic — and YOU’RE INVITED!

This free event will kick off with a VIP Reception from 12-1pm where our most distinguished guests will gather for refreshments, enjoy an eslusive behind-the-scenes experience, and mingle with local filmmaker Bryan Gibel and members of the film team.

The main event will take place from 1-4pm. We'll feature new clips from the film-in-progress honoring Betty Reid Soskin's legacy, performances of Betty's music, and a roundtable discussion with the film team and a representative from the NAACP. Also, a portion of the proceeds for this event will go to the local NAACP youth chapter.

THE FILM

is a work-in-progress feature documentary about iconic National Park Ranger Betty Reid Soskin, her hidden life as a singer-songwriter and a civil rights pioneer in California, and her journey to re-explore her music sixty years later. The film also chronicles her family's experiences crossing the color line into an all-white neighborhood in the 50s and 60s and her struggles to raise four black children, one gay, one disabled, in an oppressive climate.
