Mark Slindlinger is finally retiring after years of coaching for Norwalk in football and track and field.
Mark quietly told to me after the season. Mark did not want to bum out the kids so he waited to tell me once the season is complete completed..
We often celebrate retiring head coaches, but rarely retiring assistant coaches. An assistant coach who in my mind is one of the greatest ever at Norwalk! Mark was always humble, and totally dedicated to the kids he coached treating them all the same. He put in so many hours so many hours prepping things for the day. He would work just as hard off season (off the clock) for our indoor track and field program and conditioning as he did in season.
Sooooooooo, I do not want to see him go off into the sunset without proper recognition by the people he had an impact on.
I am planning a surprise party for him. I’m posting this on social media because we all know mark does not own a cell phone or is he on any social media, so more likely he will not see this rather public invite.
My plan is that every year I host an appreciation dinner for all my HS and MS track and field coaches. This year I am planning it the day after we have my son’s graduation party so everything would be setup for a party. And it SHOULD be a surprise as long as people keep a secret. He will not not suspect something is up. The dinner for my coaches will be at 6pm on July 20th (Sunday) at 7:00 sharp, I want a flash party to show up at my house on cue 😁. If all goes well, it will be a great send off. I plan to have some of my students help coordinate the flash party. If you cannot be there at 7, come later as it will be an open house format.
This party is open to friends, family former student athletes; colleagues etc. Please get the word out to people you think may want to be part of this event.

Be prepared to share memories. Also post any old photos you may have as I plan to make a slideshow.
