For Heritage Open Day 2025, we're celebrating all things built by brick at the Wensleydale Railway! Whether it’s the unique stations along our railway line, or the many buildings that sprang up around them, we’re examining local architecture history.
On Saturday 20th September, Leeming Bar Station and the Leeming Bar Community Hub will be hosting a free architecture exhibition designed specifically for Heritage Open Day.
'Building our Railway: The Architecture of Leeming Bar and Beyond' will take a look at the unique architecture of the Wensleydale Railway, and the area around its headquarters in Leeming Bar village, through a mix of historical information, staff talks and tours, photographs, models, and more.
We'll be dipping into our archives to bring an interesting examination of all things brick and mortar. Whether you are a local, or visiting us from far away, we look forward to diving into our railway's fascinating history within the local community.
This Heritage Open Day exhibition is open from 10am to 3pm and free to visit. Regular costs for rail travel tickets still apply.

Our light blue timetable offers 4 return trips per day between Leeming Bar and Leyburn, travelling via Bedale and Finghall Lane. There is an early morning (09:20) train from Leeming giving a good basis for a walk in the Dales, and a 10:20 train from Leyburn giving access to Bedale.
Why not visit the Georgian market town of Bedale with its classic Yorkshire market square, interesting shops and local pubs? Alternatively, Leyburn is the perfect place to visit for a countryside walk, such as a 7-mile circular walk along Leyburn Shawl, Preston-under-Scar and Wensley. This will give you amazing panoramic views over Wensleydale!
If you are staying at the campsite at Finghall, why not use the train to explore Bedale, Leeming Bar or Leyburn. Or if you are in Leyburn, use the train to visit Bedale or Leeming Bar, the choice is yours!
