Cut & Compose: Collage Fundamentals

Artist Andy Harris will lead a free collage workshop in support of his Solo Exhibition "Little Flowers That Follow Me Everywhere" (on view in The Vault 4/19-5/24). Join Andy as he leads you through a collage process in this free two-hour session. All supplies are included but participants are welcome to bring along their own sketchbook or journal if desired.

Andy Harris is an artist and art educator based in Norfolk, Virginia. Holding a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, Andy creates loose yet well-constructed collages that explore bold forms and vibrant narratives. With 15 years of teaching experience, Andy's practice is influenced by a deep understanding of visual storytelling and a passion for pushing the boundaries of collage art.

Little Flowers That Follow Me Everywhere

This collection of small collages captures the quiet companionship of flowers—both real and imagined—that linger in memory and along the paths I walk. Inspired by neighborhood strolls and the way nature persists in overlooked corners, each piece reflects a blend of observation and invention. Some blooms are familiar, their forms drawn from the gardens and wild patches nearby, while others are fragments of dreams, pieced together from color and texture. Through these intimate compositions, I invite viewers to pause and notice the subtle beauty that often goes unseen, reminding us that even the smallest flowers can leave a lasting impression.

This workshop is free and open to the public, but your RSVP gives us an idea on what to expect! We accept walk-ins and RSVPs, but all spaces are first come, first served - an RSVP does not guarantee your space. Please arrive on time.

With help from the City of Norfolk and their Program for Improving Capacity and Capability (PICC) Grant, the d'Art Center is able to bring back free programming for our community, but we need your help to gather information required by the grant to meet our goal in Connecting the Community with the Visual Arts. Before the activity begins, attendees will be asked to fill out a Participation Card that includes questions such as age range, zip code, etc.
