About Conrad Snider:

Conrad Snider concentrates primarily on large-scale ceramic work. Many of his pieces take between six and nine months to complete, including as many as four firings that take a week and a half each.

Locally, his permanent, public commissions can be seen at Newton High School, the Carriage Factory Gallery, Bethel College, and the Blue Sky Project. Public commissions elsewhere include the Dyck Arboretum in Hesston; the Advanced Learning Library, the Nomar Plaza, Evergreen Library, Botanica, and the Kansas Leadership Center in Wichita; the KU School of Business in Lawrence; the Salina Art Center and Municipal Building in Salina; and the Fort Smith Public Library in Arkansas.

Conrad was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and moved with his family to North Newton when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Hesston High School, where he first encountered ceramics. He then pursued ceramics in his secondary education, first for three years at Bethel College, then transferring to the Kansas City Art Institute, where he graduated with a degree in ceramics in 1985.

From that point on, he began making his own work, while continuing his education with apprenticeships with various renowned ceramic artists: Arnie Zimmerman, Paul Soldner, Ken Ferguson, and Peter Voulkos. He spent five years as an apprentice to the Japanese American artist Jun Kaneko, in Omaha. With Jun, he worked on projects in Omaha, California, Japan, and Holland, honing his skills with large-scale ceramics.

He is currently commissioned for permanent installations at the Pracht Wetlands and Country Acres Dog Park in Wichita. He also does many private commissions.
