Gypsy Dreams
Sharon Hubbocks and Tim Heming are two seasoned performers creating their own take on acoustic Gypsy music from Europe and around the world. Using violin and guitar, but also including clarinet, viola and tenor banjo, they encompass styles such as French, Irish, Klezmer, Greek, classical, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Russian, tangos and bossas, plus popular tunes from the classical repertoire and elsewhere. Sharon and Tim have spent years researching their chosen musical passions and delight in conveying their enthusiasm to their audience.
The Orchard Cafe Quartet came together with a shared love of folk music and the need to play live music together after 2020. The name comes from the venue of the quartet's debut outing at Chudleigh Arts Festival. Their music is based on a number of Nordic and Scottish folk tune arrangements written by The Danish String Quartet as well as some original compositions. The music is a blend of traditional tunes and classical composition with space for improvisation.
The programme also includes some of the group's original arrangements of British tunes, an Irish Medley by Bill Thorpe and a very well known sea shanty that became popular last year on TikTok.
