Yma o Hyd - Dylan Duffield
Yma o Hyd is a gripping one-act play, written and directed by Dylan Duffield. It follows two strangers caught in the aftermath of a mining explosion. Set during the final days of the Welsh mining industry, it explores the hidden struggles of men facing a changing world and their own inner battles, as well as the complexities of family relationships. Starring Duffield as Aled and Sam Locke as Rhodri, Yma o Hyd is inspired by true stories shared to the writer by his grandfather as a boy, this debut offers a powerful look at resilience and identity.
Her Story Theatre - Daughter of Bala
Daughter of Bala is a gripping new play by Newport playwright Adele Cordner. Starring Clare Drewett, Her Story Theatre Company brings to life the incredible story of 19th century Welsh working woman Betsi Cadwaladr who defied convention by travelling the world as a single woman and then setting off for the Crimean War in her 60s where she clashed with Florence Nightingale and was not afraid to speak truth to power.
Katy Arnell - Seagulls Over Newport
Katy Arnell is a Newport based poet and Theatre Maker. Having established her career as a director and playwright in London over 15 years, she then moved back to her native Newport, to work as a freelance creative. Returning to Newport sparked the writing of her latest play “Seagulls Over Newport”, a series of unrelated vignettes in which we meet a neurotic bird watcher, and Craig, a seagull from Newport with plenty to say! The play is a must see for all Newportonians with lots of city specific references, a familiar warmth, and a story telling style which is undeniably Newport.
