Dinosaurs at Dusk – the Origins of Flight
Travel back in time through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous geological periods in search of the ancestors of modern-day birds, the feathered dinosaurs.
Join a father and his teenage daughter Lucy, who share a fascination for all things that fly, as they travel back in time navigating from continent to continent, exploring an Earth teeming with dinosaurs in search for clues on the origins of flight.
Racing against time, they paraglide through ancient skies with Quetzalcoatlus, flee from raptors and traverse deserts with Argentinosaurus. They walk through rain forests, climb ice cliffs, sail over primordial seas and parachute into a huge sinkhole in their search for the first flying birds. When time runs out, they even experience first-hand the cataclysmic ‘final day’ of the dinosaurs.
Length: 30 minutes
For ages 6+
Live Astronomer Show
Join us for a live planetarium show where you will journey through the night sky. A presenter will guide you as you explore the stars, constellations, and planets and the phenomena surrounding them. Discover the origins of the constellations, learn how to distinguish the stars and the planets, and gain insight to a deeper understanding of the ever-changing night sky. Whether you're a curious beginner or a seasoned stargazer, this immersive tour offers a fascinating look at the universe from your own backyard.
This experience is facilitated by Dr Gareth Jones, an astrophysics researcher specialising in the distant Universe, investigating the formation and evolution of galaxies — from the emergence of the first galaxies to the processes that shaped them into systems like our own Milky Way.
Length: 25 minutes
Dynamic Earth
Stunning 360° film exploring the inner workings of global climate, using rich visualisations based on satellite data and advanced supercomputer simulations.
Follow a trail of energy from the Sun into the interlocking systems that shape our climate: the atmosphere, oceans and the biosphere.
Ride along swirling ocean and wind currents, dive into the heart of a monster hurricane, come face-to-face with sharks and gigantic whales, and fly into roiling volcanoes.
Length: 24 minutes
We Are Aliens
Join scientists in the hunt for real aliens. How do we know which planets could harbour life? What are the requirements for life?
Discover how robots are programmed to fly to alien worlds, land on their own and then are driven by remote control from Earth.
Will we ever encounter intelligent life in our galaxy or are we perhaps alone in the Universe?
Length: 23 minutes
