Junior bushcraft sessions for men and the children in their care.
Please note these are NOT drop-off sessions.
We meet in the carpark at Parkhurst Forest before walking to our Forest School area. There we will welcome everyone, before setting you up for your morning's adventures. The sessions vary every month - we might build different types of shelters, light fires in a variety of ways, use a number of tools (so far we've used axes, billhooks, saws and drills). We generally have a little project to have a go at, but participation is voluntary. We end the session around the campfire and usually have a little fire-side snack.
The sessions are run by Geoff Mason, the owner of Wood Learn Forest School, and a member of the Institute of Outdoor Learning and the Bushcraft Professional Practice Group. Geoff's experience includes a period of living among the Aborigines in Australia all the way to teaching wheelchair users how to use tools and a myriad of things inbetween!
Luschka van Onselen assists in the sessions, and is the self-declared 'token woman', there for pastoral care for girls in attendance.
Cancellation Policy: To achieve the most out of this event, we limit participation to 12 children. This means that late cancellations can have a huge impact on numbers. We request two weeks notice of cancellations. This gives us the opportunity to fill the spaces. If you have to cancel before two weeks, we offer a credit to your account to be used at a later date, but do not generally offer refunds, unless in exceptional situations. If you cannot use your tickets you are welcome to pass them on to someone else, but please let us know so that we know who we're waiting for. We do not cancel for rain. Cancellations made 14 days or more in advance of the event date, will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations after 14 days are only refunded if a replacement can be found or the ticket is sold on.
