An Ancient Practice for an Anxious New Age: A Workshop for Healing and Transformation
"You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves." Mary Oliver
All levels welcome, no prior experience is necessary.
A Somatic Solstice Workshop for Nervous System Healing & Embodied Return
At the turning point of the sun’s cycle, we gather to meet the turning point in ourselves.
This is not a performance.
It’s a return.
This seasonal workshop invites you into a deeper relationship with “the soft animal of your body”—the mammalian intelligence within you that longs for safety, connection, and rhythmic movement.
Through guided somatic practices, rest, breath, and somatic shaking, we will:
Explore the autonomic nervous system and its felt expressions
Practice shaking and undulating to discharge tension and restore flow
Reclaim neuroception—your body’s ability to detect safety
Honour the seasonal transition with ritual and reflection
Feel into the softening of your primitive heart—the part of you that longs to connect, to rest, to belong
Here’s Why the Soft Animal of Your body is Important:
The soft animal of your body relies on neuroception—your nervous system’s unconscious ability to detect safety or danger.
It happens automatically, below the level of thought—guiding how your body responds, before your mind even catches up.
Beneath the complexity of your thoughts, self-judgements, and reasoning lives a very alive and vibrant soft mammal that simply wants to feel safe.
Just like a deer in the woods, your mammal body is always scanning—Can I rest? Is there danger?
If it senses safety, it can:
Rest
Digest
Play
Experience pleasure
If it senses threat, it wants to respond—not to stay stuck, but to return to regulation and connection as soon as possible.
And that’s what this workshop is about—giving your system the tools to come home.
Why Shaking Works
Somatic shaking—also called therapeutic tremoring—is instinctive, natural, and powerful.
Just like animals shake off adrenaline after a threat, you can too.
It helps to:
Release held tension and stress
Burn off adrenaline and cortisol
Shift from survival mode to restoration
Reclaim your sense of aliveness
Activate the parasympathetic nervous system (your “calm and connect” response)
This workshop provides a supportive space to heal, transform, and expand your capacity for resilience and connection. Whether you’re seeking to deepen your practice or explore the intersection of somatics and felt sense, this experience offers tools and insights to align more deeply with your authentic self.
What to Expect:
We will journey into a day of experiential embodiment.:
Somatic Practices: As we journey through the somatic language of the body, embodying their unique qualities, and frequencies we simultaneously create a somatic toolbox. Using inquiry, meditation, asana, and movement we will learn where our resistances lie and where there are possibilities for expansion, magnetism, spaciousness, and lightness.
Breathwork. Reclaim the pleasure of breathing. Breathing is central to being at ease in relationship with our bodies, our Selves, and the world around us. Learn simple, practical, and relevant tools that engage the transformative nature of breathing while exploring fluid movement.
Learn about the nervous system’s survival states. We will use practical somatic movement methods, emphasising being gentle with ourselves when we move through, fight, flight, freeze, fawn.
A delicious, nourishing vegetarian meal and a healing winter solstice nectar will be lovingly served—to nourish the soul and indulge the senses.
Gathering around food is not just a treat—it’s a practice of grounding, connection, and comfort.
Sharing warmth and stillness with others over a meal is an essential part of co-regulation—reminding our nervous systems that we’re not alone.
This simple ritual of shared nourishment will gently support and deepen our embodied practice together.
Nourishment as Medicine:
Interweaving Lucinda’s expertise in KundalinI, yoga therapy, somatic psychotherapy, Polyvagal Theory, Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry, and current studies in Somatic Experiencing, this course combines Kundalini Yoga, meditation, mantra and nervous system education to support embodied healing and transformation.
