Tidal Predictability and Flood Forecasting

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, we are joined by Katie Giannakopoulos, Coastal Dynamics Research Associate at the Gulf of Maine Research who shares her research on tidal predictability and flood forecasting. Her presentation will review research into coastal tides and their relationship to flooding prediction, the science behind sea level rise and its impacts on the Gulf of Maine, why the Gulf of Maine is warming faster than other ocean surfaces, the forces driving coastal storms and their unique effects on this region, and how communities in the Gulf of Maine are working to adapt to these changes.

This talk will be held at the Newburyport Community/Senior Center, 331 High Street, Newburyport. Doors will open at 6:30 PM for light refreshments and socializing, and the presentation will begin at 7 PM.
