Speaker Series: History of White Clay Creek

From the time of the dam/reservoir proposal in the late 1960’s, citizen activists have been working to save the White Clay Creek. In 39 years, 43 parcels --and counting-- have been acquired. Two or three parcels still hang in the balance. Each parcel acquisition was a universe of meetings, phone calls, cultivation of legislators, bumper stickers, and buttons. A confluence of factors (geological, financial, political, cultural, leadership) came together to make this happen. Few people remember the whole story. Jan Owens is piecing together the history for a forthcoming book.
