Recirculation, a project of Word Up
876 Riverside Drive, New York, United States
The state of the world lately has felt paralyzing to me—overwhelming, dangerous, desperate, enraging, and hopeless. Do you feel it, too? There is a hellish potpourri of causes to choose from at the moment. At the beginning of this administration I was having a conversation about the raids and the fear in the air, even in NYC, and I heard, "Something needs to be done." I immediately thought, "Yes, of course." And my thought after that was, "Oh. The something is me. I, I have to do something." This is the time. We have the examples and the famous quotes from history. This is the time to do something. As a child of immigrants, as a Latina, as a mother, as a human, and as a citizen whose tax dollars are being used for harm, my focus with this campaign is to raise money to help the human beings—the families—coming to this country so they and their loved ones can survive. The people in New York City and in my neighborhood who want to see their children live in safety, just like I do. The people who want a chance at life, just like I do. The people who are just like you and me.
So please join me in action, because the only thing better than taking action is being with friends while doing it. Let's raise $2,500 for Make the Road New York! MRNY is renowned for their work with immigrants and beyond. You can buy merchandise here or donate directly here.
And then let's celebrate! Please RSVP here and come out in person so we may join in community and joy as resistance, as survival, as giving thanks.
?
Make the Road NY builds the power of immigrant and working-class communities to achieve dignity and justice through:
-community organizing
-policy innovation
-transformative education, and
-the provision of high-quality legal and survival services.
In response to the tremendous attacks on immigrants and many other communities, Make the Road NY has been fighting for the end of ICE collaboration with local police in NY state, turning out thousands of New Yorkers to rallies, and launching multiple court cases challenging expedited removal, the end of protected statuses for immigrants, the assault on birthright citizenship, and more.
How do I participate?
-Buy some merchandise I created with a poem I wrote, proceeds go directly to MRNY.
-Donate any amount directly. (Because you may not need more stuff!)
-If you can't donate right now, please spread the word about this fundraiser.
-Connect with Make the Road NY:
-Join me in person to celebrate on Saturday, June 14th. You're in the right place to RSVP!
