Our neighborhood is incredible! Come and see some of the community gardens that make this storied place the Garden District. We’ll gather at LaPlaza Cultural (East 9th and Avenue C) and walk to explore several more of these wonderful places and return here in 90 minutes. We’ll see permaculture, green infrastructure, compost, biodiversity, heritage and more. Hear about current quests to maintain cohesion and autonomy while addressing diversity, climate and resiliency. Your guide is a community gardener and LUNGs board member who has led several tours of Loisaida/Lower East Side, with guest speakers along the way.

Locally made Green Maps share a fresh perspective on community assets and challenges. The nonprofit Green Map System offers sustainability and social icons, a versatile mapping platform and engagement tools that have been utilized in 65 countries. It’s free for non-commercial projects mapping nature, culture and green living resources. This tour will introduce some of the inclusionary ways community gardeners have involved diverse voices, habitats and practices.
