Michael Vorenberg book talk in NYC (Century Association): "Lincoln's Peace"

Lincoln's Peace offers revelations about the ending of the war that lies at the very core of American identity. When did the war truly end? In exploring these issues, Vorenberg asks bigger questions about whether any war has an obvious ending and who, if anyone, gets to say when the conflict is over.

Michael Vorenberg, a history professor at Brown University, is the author of (Alfred A. Knopf). Released on March 18, 2025, Lincoln’s Peace was named by the L.A. Times as one of the “10 books we’re looking forward to in 2025.” It has been featured on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show and has received reviews from the New Yorker, the Wall Street Journal, and the Associated Press. Vorenberg is also the author of Final Freedom: The Civil War, the Abolition of Slavery, and the Thirteenth Amendment, which was a finalist for the Lincoln Prize and was used as the basis for the screenplay of Stephen Spielberg’s 2012 film, Lincoln. Also an author of a book about the Emancipation Proclamation, Vorenberg specializes in the history of the Civil War, the Constitution, and Abraham Lincoln. His writings have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the New York Times, Politico, and the Washington Post.
