Expressions of Interests wanted!

If New Plymouth had a voice, how might it talk with its citizens?
We’re looking for people to help us find creative ways to explore this question. If this interests you, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’re a resident of New Plymouth who has lived in the city (or wider city area) for 3+ years we invite you to attend a design fiction workshop at Puke Ariki Library and Museum.

We’ll provide catering and a $20 supermarket voucher

Thursday 28 August 2025: 7pm - 9.30pm
Friday 29 August 2025: 3pm - 5.30pm

About the workshops:
The idea is to envisage different ways in which a city with a voice might support its citizens in tackling challenges and to encourage their kaitiakitanga (care/guardianship). From this we hope to produce a physical or virtual exhibition of the design concepts.

You’ll work in a small group of 2-4 within a gathering of up to 12 people to consider the question of what your city might talk about with its citizens and why. You’ll get the opportunity to present your design to the other groups and hear inspiring feedback, which helps to expand and solidify ideas.

Context:
The purpose of the workshop is to nurture inclusive creative design ideas that integrate Māori perspectives and diverse voices. The method we use is Design Fiction, which is human-centred and co-constructed. This project thrives on a community-driven solution. The outcome will help us to develop a range of approaches and a set of design guidelines for future work to support sustainable citizen behaviour. The ideas generated in these workshops may be included in an online and/or physical exhibition, subject to participant agreement.
