Youth Homelessness Awareness Sleepout
I’m inviting all local churches, businesses, and community members to join me on November 21st for a community sleepout to raise awareness about youth homelessness.
Just three months ago, I met a 17-year-old boy living outside. That encounter opened my eyes to a heartbreaking reality — there are thousands of homeless youth right here in our own communities. Many of them have aged out of the foster care system with nowhere to go, and far too many become homeless adults.
The young man I met now lives with me. He’s not just a foster teen — he’s my son. He is loved, safe, and finally has a place to call home.
In Indiana, youth homelessness has risen sharply — from 22,000 in 2024 to more than 30,000 today. Only about 6% of homeless youth ever make it to college. We can do better.
On November 21st, I’ll be sleeping outside to start a conversation — and hopefully find others who want to build real programs and organizations to end youth homelessness for good.
If sleeping outside isn’t for you, please still come by. Share a cup of hot chocolate and let's chat on how you can help.
