The emerging popularity of chasing Tuna & deep water species off the West Coast of the South Island has got anglers hooked! and many curious, accessing these desired species and fishing grounds requires crossing a notoriously dangerous bar and for many venturing into unknown areas & deep seas.
Here at Coastguard we want every boatie home safely, and of course with an epic fishing trip under their belt & great stories to share, so we've teamed up with local legend Dan Govier for an exciting and informative evening at Hunting and Fishing Nelson. Dan we'll be discussing game fishing in the South Island. Dan will be sharing his vast experience chasing Bluefin Tuna along the West Coast, as well as the emerging Marlin fishery that is developing near Westport.
In addition to some great advice about how to set your boat up for game fishing, we will be sharing some local information about how to cross Westcoast bars and what extra tips you need to know when fishing in the South Island’s unique conditions.
This session is all about preparing anglers for a safer, more successful game fishing. the event is casual, free and all welcome, please feel free to make a donation to the Nelson unit when registering.
